Tantalum boride or tantalum diboride is a powdery gray color. The Tantalum diboride has a pH of and is insoluble in nitric, hydrofluoric or acidic solutions. Hot sulfuric acid is slightly soluble, as are hydrofluoric acids. Solvable in sodium carbonate and molten alkali. Crystal and TaB2 films have a Vickers Hardness around 30 GPa. These materials are resistant to acid corrosion and oxidation up to 700degC.
TaB2 shares the same hexagonal shape as most diborides. (Alb 2, MGB2,etc.). It also has space groups such as TAB (orthogonal, crystal system iodized Cmcm), MGB2, TA5B6(Cmmm), and TA3B4(IMmm).

How are Tantalum Boride TAB2 Powder manufactured?
Under vacuum or cylinder-gas protection, either the carbon-oxidizing mixture and boron oxide are prepared, or the powder is made by reacting with boron.
The floating zone method allows for the production of single crystals (approximately 1 cm in size and 6 cm long) of Tab2.
At temperatures over 600degC, TAB (single phase), deposited by a ratio of BCL3 / TaCl5, is possible.
Tab2 nanocrystals can be synthesized successfully by reducing NaBH4 to Ta 2O5 with a molecular ratio of 1:14 M:B under argon at 700-900degC.
